Victoria-The State of Criminal Rights
The story that appeared on the front page of the Sunday Heraldsun highlights the absurd state of affairs the legal system of Victoria is in.
Ashley Coulston and Julian Knight are two of society’s most dangerous criminals and yet our Government and Judiciary continually gives them the opportunity to mount challenges in the Supreme Court at taxpayers cost. Now if a victim wanted to take action in the same Court, I doubt that it would see fit to waive the fee like it did for these two killers.
The fact that Coulston was bought to the Court under heavy security and secrecy is one thing, but to even let him try and mount an enquiry on his conviction for the callous murder of three innocent students is not only demeaning to their memory, it also smacks of arrogance and insensitivity on his part, not to mention a misguided belief by our Judiciary and Government that they have the right to do so.
Why do we continue to pander to the Rights of criminals in this State when they should be paying society back for the heinous crimes they committed. The State Government and Rob Hulls in particular, have eroded the publics confidence in Justice to such an extent with this absurd Bill of Rights, that there is a definate chance that they will feel the same sort of public backlash in November that an out of touch Kennettt Goverment felt 10 years ago.
