| Trust me I am a politician-How could you!! |

I don't know how long we have been complaining about the lack of Police in the State of Victoria but I do know that our complaints and those from other sources have been glossed over by Government spin determined to deflect criticism from not only them but the Chief Commissioner and her underlings. It is not an uncommon occurrence to find a regional station unmanned because of staff shortages which in turn undermines public safety and confidence.

| Appeals need to addressed |
8:31 PM, Jul 27 2008 |
|
Many times we have raised the issue of Appeals and how they are designed to give a guilty party every chance to get away with their crime not to mention prolonging the suffering of the victims and their families. What we have advocated for is a top up system of Justice on Appeals where the Defendant has the chance to continue with his appeal but should he/she lose they get an increase on the existing sentence.

| A rape is a rape then why a discount? |
8:29 PM, Jul 27 2008 |
|
The most courageous thing a victim can do in a sexual abuse case such as rape is report it and have the offender held to account, or so you would think. The only problem with that is our Courts seem hell-bent on finding excuses for the offenders when it comes to handing out a sentence. Take the case of Michael McLindon who appeared in the County Court this week on a charge of rape and was subsequently found Guilty by a jury.

An interesting article from earlier this year that appeared in the Herald Sun: A TEENAGER who robbed then bashed a 75-year-old great-grandmother in her bed so she would not recognise him has avoided jail. Judge David Parsons today sentenced Ashley Wayne Brooks, 19, to a two-year youth justice centre order and said his young age and slight stature were factors in the sentencing. Brooks had pleaded guilty in the County Court to five charges including aggravated burglary and intentionally causing serious injury after breaking into Barbara Durea's housing commission flat in Traralgon on March 17.

| We have a right to know |
8:40 PM, May 05 2008 |

Who has more rights to legal protection - an innocent child or a convicted serial pedophile and rapist? The answer is no longer obvious after the decision of a Melbourne court to allow a multiple sex offender, who experts fear will strike again, to return anonymously to the community. The County Court gag means the Sunday Herald Sun cannot name this sex offender, publish his photograph or let you know where he will live after his imminent release from jail. We believe you have a right to be told if known predators live in your neighbourhoods. Read the entire article Herald Sun

| Make hoon punishment hurt |
5:31 PM, Apr 28 2008 |
|
VICTORIA'S current hoon laws do not seem to be getting through to those irresponsible idiots who treat the punishment as a badge of honour. That they can get their car back in 48 hours and most likely reoffend just goes to show that irresponsible people will not take heed of warnings until they start to experience some real discomfort. Although police are seizing about 50 hoon cars a week, costing the owners about $1 million to reclaim them, it does not go far enough. Read the entire article from The Herald Sun
